Don't Stand By, Stand Up!

Last week was Anti Bullying Week and RBCS did a lot of talking about bullying.  We learned how important it is to stand up to bullies, how to do that, and even shared how we ourselves have been bullied/bullies ourselves.

Our class watched many videos and commercials about bullying, and took a pledge to Stand Up Against Bullying. You can find the pledge here.

We ended the week off with an assembly organized by Student Council.

Home Roots Concert

On November 1 we got to watch a Home Roots concert, where two brothers played there acoustic guitar and electric guitar in the Music room.  The grade 8s, 4N and 4Z clapped and stomped to the beat of the music. We all had fun at the Home Roots concert. The two people were brothers but they didn’t look alike. There were lots of songs.  One of them was called “Ontar-i-o”.  We hope that you will get to see them too.  If you get to see them you will have lots of fun.

Pumpkin Carving

Today we had a really exciting morning carving pumpkins.  Our groups and helpers scooped out the pumpkin guts and seeds.  It felt so cool, gross, tingly, slimy, and cold! First we weighed and measured our pumpkins and estimated how many seeds were inside. We counted the seeds, drew on a face, and cut out the design.  Then we drew names to see which group member would get to take the pumpkin home, and one group even flipped a coin to find the lucky winner! Next Mrs. Naylor took our picture with our pumpkins and we took one big class picture. We will keep the pumpkins at school until Halloween.

Good bye students!

Well the 2011/2012 school year is over.  The classroom is empty, tomorrow you will pick up your report cards, and we will say good bye to each other for the summer.  Some of you are moving away to new communities and we won't see each other next year.  I hope you all have a great year in grade 5 with your new teachers wherever that may be.  Don't forget to come visit me or say hi when we pass in the hallway. You will ALWAYS be special to me, and I hope you look back on your time in grade 4 and remember how much fun we had together.  Have a safe, healthy, and fun summer!

Love always,
Mrs. Naylor

I think the best part is that I get to miss Friday’s worth of school! On our way there we are going to stop at a place by a lake with the dog. I am going to love this trip!

Ice Cream Party

We had our ice cream party because in swimming we were racing out of the change room after our lessons to see who would get out faster: the boys or the girls, but we tied so that’s why we had our ice cream party.

Our ice cream party was awesome because there was fudge ripple ice cream, and chocolate ice cream. There also was chocolate and caramel sauce with marshmallows and sprinkles. Some of us got seconds but the rest of us were full of ice cream. Most of us brought the rest of our ice cream home. All of us loved the ice cream.

Indoor soccer team!!!

The soccer program was fun and full of laughter and pain. Justin Lies was kneed in the FACE! There was Abby, Justin, Anna, Joel, Riley, and many more on my team. We had so much fun and we never lost  a game. I cheered for a friend on an enemy team.  Tegan and Riley were our coaches. J

THE FRENCH PRESENTATION

THE FRENCH PRESENTATION

The French presentation was totally awesome because it was about coffee shops or le café. Carson L. went to the front of the gym the most. He probably went up 4 times. Then  I pretended I was JUSTIN BIEBER, so I had to pick two backup singers to sing French with me. Those kids were Carson L. and Rylan and we sang the ABC’s in French. The grades that were there was grade kindergarten to grade six. There were people shining lights and one was from the Czech Republic. There were two more people and they were from France. At the end of the show some people danced around in a conga line and then it was over.

French assignment

Students recently completed a French assignment which required them to make a poster showing the four seasons: l'ete, le printemps, l'hiver, and l'automne, and the types of clothing worn during those seasons.

Here are some samples taken with the ipad camera and using the app called InFrameCut.

Students also clothed and labeled a cut out person for each season.

Teeth

Well it all started in Health, when we were learning about teeth. Then one day Mrs. Naylor sent home a sheet and we have to brush twice a day and floss once. We have to bring it back on June 1ST.  Then she’ll mark it and we’ll get our mark back . When we floss we put a checkmark on the box on the right date, then when we brush our teeth we put a smile face on the sheet on the right date.
We also learned about the enamel, the gums,  the pulp, and the dentin. That’s what the grade fours have been learning about in health and we’ve taken notes and learned how important it is to take care of your teeth and how when you get a cavity your tooth rots and there’s a big hole in your tooth and it hurts. Then you have to go and get it pulled or filled by the dentist. Make sure you go to the dentist at least twice a year to get your teeth checked.

Extra Extra Read All About It

Many of you have seen the imovie our class made on bullying, but now the Flin Flon School Board has seen it as well.

On Tuesday, May 8, myself, Haley, Torin, and Blake attended the school board meeting and presented the imovie to the trustees.  The students did a wonderful job explaining what the video was about, why we made it, and how we did it using the ipad.

Kelly Carrington of The Reminder was also at the meeting and featured us in Friday's issue of the newspaper on page 3.

I have posted a link to the newspaper in case you missed it.  Check us out!

Recycling for Earth Day

On April 22 it was Earth Day. We decided to recycle for a week and then we had to bring it to school to see how much our class could recycle. There were like 7 – 10  bags of recycling. Then the people who brought a bag of recycling got to stand beside their bag and get a picture. We let the bags stay at the front of the room before we moved them to the back of the room out of the way. I was going to recycle but I forgot to. The colour of the bags were grey and white, blue bags and black bags. I wasn’t in the picture because I didn’t recycle. Then the bags were taken to the Recycling Centre.

Art projects

One day for Art our class made a self- portrait collage.  Collages are where you get magazines and scrap paper and you cut them up into little pieces and glue them on to make yourself or anything else.  Then you can make a back ground. You can make a sun, the clouds, or anything else you like.  They’re really fun to make and really easy to make so hopefully you can make one someday.  You can make one by following my 7 steps :
1 get magazines

2  get scissors and glue

3 plan what you’re making

4 cut the pieces you need into small shapes

5 glue them on

6 make a background

7 then you’re finished

Easter Eggs

Today we also decorated easter eggs with the students in 6Johnson after we finished the CPR training.  Here are our beautiful eggs that students will take home before Easter!

Have a great (and safe) Spring Break!

Last Day before Spring Break

Today our class took part in CPR "training" taught by the students in 6Johnson.  As part of the grade 6 Health curriculum the students learned the steps to perform CPR, and were required to practice it by teaching us!

The grade fours went next door to their classroom where we watched a short video, watched a demonstration, and then practiced the technique on "Mini Anne".  Thanks grade sixes for showing us this great life saving technique!

Miss Johnson explaining CPR to us

 Watching the video

Our turn to try doing chest compressions on "Mini Anne"

The grade fours realized how hard it is to do chest compressions properly.

Cubism Bunny Art

Our hall bulletin board is ready for Spring! The students used water color crayons and water color pencil crayons, in the cubism style to create Easter art.

First we drew a bunny on our paper.

Then we outlined it with marker.

Next, we traced an egg shape all over the paper.

After that we colored in all sections of our art with water color pencil crayons/crayons.

Lastly, we painted over the colors with water.

Here are a few student samples:

Mrs. Naylor found this idea on Pinterest.

Our second wrestling tournament

At 9:00am I got up to go to Hapnot for our second wrestling tournament on Sat.Feb.25.   I left at 9:30 a.m. so my mom could drive me to Hapnot.  When I got there I was a little bit shy.  But after I started wrestling I felt better.  I even made a few friends.
My first match, I versed a kid named Carson from McIsaac, I lost against him.  Then I wrestled and lost against Justin from Ruth Betts, but I won against Carson L. also from Ruth Betts so I got a bronze metal.
Gunner got bronze, Haley got bronze, Madison Got gold, and I got bronze.

Wrestling

Our First Wrestling Tournament

I woke up, went to school at 7:30, and the bus left at 7:45. The destination was The Pas at an elementary school. I fought people in high school. One of them grabbed me by my legs, pulled me up, and dropped me. My back still hurts from that. Gladly I got my first gold in wrestling. My parents bought me a brownie cake that had ten brownies on it to celebrate. I had dinner at the A&W after the tournament. Then I came home at 5:15 that night.

Science Fair

The car from Ethan and Justin's project

We had to present our science fair project to the class on February 15, 16, and 21 in the afternoon. Students had to bring all their work to the classroom. We started working on the Science Fair Jan. 19. It was exciting to see people present their work to us. Students did all kinds of science fair projects like this one: Can Raisins Swim?

February 22 was the real Science Fair. Only 3 students from our class got 1st place

and they are Justin and Ethan, and Kadence. The 2nd place students are Anna and Abby, and Madison. The 3rd place students are Carson L. and Ronnie, and Blake.
Congratulations!

Spaghetti Lunch

The spaghetti lunch was awesome! The whole school went to the lunch on February 1. Every one waited their turn to get food at the booth. The food at the booth was spaghetti, meatballs, tomato sauce, bread, and cookies.  They were all good! We had the lunch in the gym because it had the most room. The most Patient class was 2Tardiff so they got extra gym, but got to eat last!  Taylor c. ate the spaghetti with her hands and most of the people at my table ate with a fork at least. Then students sat with their class and after we ate we watched the RBCS Core Values slide show.
